This page contains instructions for assigning the following types of alternative to a feature part for WELL at scale and WELL Ratings (not including Health-Safety Rating projects created before April 18, 2023):
Alternative adherence paths (AAPs)
AAPs are strategies that diverge from a WELL feature’s exact requirements, but meet the feature’s intent and support a similar outcome
The instructions at the bottom of this article apply to approved AAPs. If you have prepared a new AAP and need approval, learn how to submit an AAP or equivalency proposal.
Crosswalks
Crosswalks help project teams identify the exact features of WELL that align with or are deemed equivalent to strategies found in other rating programs or certification systems (e.g. LEED, BREEAM, GRESB, etc.). Only features that are deemed equivalent can apply the crosswalk. You will also select this option if you use the Interiors + Base Building tool for your locations. Be sure to assign the Crosswalk option to all applicable features using the instructions below.
Skybridge
Skybridges are used to transition or upgrade from WELL v1 Certification to v2 pilot, or from v2 pilot to V2. Be sure to assign the Skybridge option to all applicable features using the instructions below.
Not applicable
This option can be used if a precondition does not apply to your project.
A project does not contain a commercial kitchen. Since there is no kitchen, N02.3 does not apply. However, N02.3 is a precondition so you must achieve this to earn Certification. In this case, assign a "Not applicable" option to the location and upload a document explaining briefly why it does not apply.
Assign alternatives on the scorecard
To use one of the types of alternative listed above for a specific feature:
- Sign in to your WELL account.
- Open your scorecard.
- Click the feature you’d like to use an alternative for.
- Go to the “Verification” tab.
- Click the “Add options” button.
- Scroll down to the Alternatives or Not Applicable section and click to expand it.
- Click the Add button next to the type of alternative you would like to use.
- Close the “Edit options” window.
- Click the “Assign locations” button to assign locations to the selected alternative.
Once you have added the chosen alternative to your scorecard and assigned your locations, tasks will be created on your Scorecard and in the Documents Library where you can upload your documents.
Be sure your documentation clearly identifies which AAP/EP you are applying.
