When enrolling an airport in WELL, the program (WELL Certification vs. WELL Core) will differ depending on the types of spaces included in the project boundary. 

See below for examples of different space types and the recommended typology:

• Full airports/airport terminal – Full airports/airport terminals that are operated by the airport authority and include spaces leased to concessions or other tenant spaces (e.g., airline offices) can enroll under WELL Core, even if the percentage of leased to non-leased space does not meet the requirements outlined in the Overview of the WELL Building Standard. The WELL Core pathway allows airport projects to focus on areas within the airport authority’s control and excludes concessions from feature requirements. Under WELL Core, features related to staff requirements are applicable to direct staff or building management staff. Features designated as direct staff are applicable to staff directly employed by the airport authority. • Interior spaces within an airport (e.g., concessions, executive lounges, fully leased areas by an airline, airport administration office within a terminal building) should enroll under the WELL Building Standard (not WELL Core) and follow the relevant requirements in the standard. 
• Airport or airline administration buildings should enroll under the WELL Building Standard and follow the relevant requirements in the WELL Building Standard (not WELL Core). 
• Other airport ancillary buildings (e.g., airport hotels, car rentals) should enroll under the WELL Building Standard (not WELL Core) and follow the relevant sector guidance (e.g., for hotel or retail projects). 

New development airports do not need to adhere to the normal five-year certification limit. If your project has a design and construction timeline longer than five years, contact the WELL coaching team.
