Staff-related features for WELL Core projects apply either to building management staff or to direct staff, defined as follows:
- Building management staff: Individuals responsible for maintaining and operating the building, including contractors and sub-contractors. Workers who spend less than 30 hours per month in the building (i.e., who are not regular building occupants) are not considered building management staff.
- Direct staff: Building staff under direct employment.
To identify which staff group applies and if staff should be included for the WELL project, consider the following questions:
- Is the person/staff group directly employed by the project owner (e.g., the airport authority)? If yes, these individuals count as direct staff. If not, they count as building management staff.
- How many hours does the person or staff group typically spend in the project boundary? If they spend fewer than 30 hours per month within the project boundary, they are not considered regular building occupants for the purposes of WELL Core Certification or WELL Certification.
The following is a non-exhaustive list of potential staff groups to consider for this exercise:
- Airline staff
- TSA & customs and border patrol (CBT)
- Security & police (federal & local)
- Facilities staff (FM)/maintenance (inhouse & third party)
- Concessions staff
- Ground staff (apron level, fueling, check-in staff, concierge, etc.)
- Emergency services (paramedics, fire fighters, etc.)
- Cleaning staff
- Baggage handling staff
- Airport executives & management
- Airline liaison team (department of aviation & airline)
- In-house airport construction/design team & construction manager
- In-house concessions teams (oversee fit-out projects)
- Third party construction teams
- Inhouse IT
- Catering/provisions
- Volunteers (e.g., information desk, dog calmers)
- Air traffic control
- Airport transportation (public & private)
- Landside traffic management (e.g., parking)
- Lounge staff
