Create a custom scorecard

  • Updated

WELL projects have access to a dynamic scorecard within their WELL account. The WELL scorecard allows project teams to choose the feature parts applicable to their project’s scope, occupant needs and well-being goals. Your scorecard allows you to set your goals, track your points and upload documentation.

The steps to complete your scorecard are different depending on how you are engaged with WELL. Be sure to choose the correct tab below. Health-Safety Rating projects created before April 18, 2023 must use the instructions on the "Health-Safety Rating" tabs. All other Ratings projects, see the "WELL Ratings" tabs.

  • Completing your WELL v2 scorecard by defining the features each location within your subscription is pursuing is an important step toward achieving your goals. Watch the video below or keep reading to learn how to complete your scorecard.

The instructions below are for the WELL v2 scorecard within your WELL at scale account. If your organization is also pursuing WELL Ratings within your WELL at scale subscription, learn how to complete your Rating scorecard.

    1. Sign in to your WELL dashboard.
    2. Go to the Scorecard tab.
    3. Click each feature part to learn more about it, including different options to satisfy the feature if available, verification requirements, FAQs and alternatives. Be sure to pay attention to 'AND' and 'OR' option requirements–some feature parts with multiple options require that you fulfill all options in order to receive credit for the part, while others allow you to choose. For example, feature N02.2 requires that you fulfill both of the options shown below to achieve the credit.Complete your WAS scorecard 1.png
    4. You can also use the filters available at the top of your screen to narrow your search based on various criteria
      • For example, if alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals is a priority for your organization, you can use filters to see feature parts aligned with each SDG.
    5. After you've read about the feature, make a selection under the Pursuing column: Yes | Maybe | No
      • This status indicates if a location or multiple locations will be pursuing this feature in the next review cycle.
    6. You must assign each feature part you are pursuing to locations. To assign a location, click on the feature part, click "Verification," then Add Option.Completing your WAS scorecard 2.jpg
    7. Choose the option(s) you would like to pursue.Completing your WAS scorecard 3.png
      • If your subscription includes WELL Core locations, you can choose whether you would like to pursue an additional WELL Core point for some features by checking the 'Targeting additional WELL Core point' box.
        • This selection will apply to all WELL Core locations assigned to this option–use the individual location scorecard to select a different option to pursue the additional Core point without meeting the baseline requirement.
      • If you are using an alternative adherence path (AAP), Skybridge, Crosswalk or the alignment tool to satisfy a feature part, expand the 'Alternatives' section and make your selection.
      • If a feature part does not apply, expand the 'Not Applicable' section and add the 'Not Applicable' option (preconditions only). You may choose multiple options for each feature part, and you may assign more than one option to each location.
      • If you are asked to choose a tier for an option that does not have different tiers (for example, feature C12.1 Option 1), choose tier 1 as a default. This will not impact your scoring. Consult the feature listing in the standard to confirm whether an option has different tiers available–be sure to choose the addenda version that applies to your organization.
    8. After you have added an option, click the "Assign locations" button next to the option.Completing your WAS scorecard 4.jpg

    9. Choose the locations that will pursue the feature part. option. There are three ways to select locations:

      • Check the box next to the location

      • Check the box at the top of the column to select all locations on this page

      • After checking the box at the top of the column, you may select all locations within your subscription.

You cannot assign locations that are currently undergoing construction or major renovation to an option on your WELL at scale scorecard. You must use the individual location scorecard for all activity for a location

After you have selected the desired locations, click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page before you close the window or change pages.

Once your scorecard is complete, you can view your outstanding tasks by clicking on a feature in the Scorecard, or see a complete list on the Documents Library tab. Learn more about WELL documentation requirements with our Documentation Guide.

    Understanding document status

There are three possible document statuses: pending, completed and achieved.

Pending: Documentation is required for this feature but has not yet been uploaded.

Completed: Documentation has been uploaded but not yet reviewed.

Achieved: Documentation review has been completed and the documentation fulfills the feature requirements.

If a document is not approved during a review, it will revert to Pending status.

    Scorecard architecture & functionality

    Points tracker / anticipated score

In the upper-right corner, you will see the project’s anticipated score, calculated based on the point value of the optimizations selected. Click on this anticipated score to see additional statistics and to track progress toward your project’s target certification level (Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum).

    Create a custom scorecard 1.gif

Below the points tracker, you’ll see the ten WELL concepts. Click on the name of each concept to explore the preconditions and optimizations for that concept. You can also see the number of points within each concept by clicking the name of the concept. When filtering by concept, there is a separate tracker for preconditions (mandatory features) and optimizations (optional, point-earning features). The tracker will update as a project selects “Yes” for optimizations.

    WELL Core Guidance

For Core Projects, make sure to reference WELL Core Guidance listed at the bottom of the feature part language. Some features allow WELL Core projects to earn additional points for extending feature requirements to spaces or occupants beyond their initial scope. For features where this additional point applies, you can choose an option on the drop-down menu in the WELL Core Guidance section of the scorecard. This will add additional points to the point tracker. If you do not choose an option, it will default to "Only targeting the feature point".

Digital standard and applicable addenda version

While all feature part language is available directly in the scorecard itself, you may also find it helpful to reference the digital standard while you customize your project’s scorecard. You can access the applicable addenda version of the digital standard at the top left of your scorecard.

Note: The applicable addenda version is the version in effect on the date you pay your registration fees. This may be different from the version that was in effect at the time your project was created.

    Downloadable scorecard

If your team prefers to do some work offline, the scorecard that you’ve created can also be downloaded into a spreadsheet format– just click the download icon (icon shown below) at the top right of the page.

    Scorecard filters

Use scorecard filters to focus on certain features. You can filter the scorecard by verification method (e.g., performance test, technical document, etc.), your response on the scorecard (yes, no, maybe), part type (precondition or optimization), and more–available filters may vary depending on your project's version.

Tip: After marking all features as "Yes," "No" or "Maybe," projects may find it helpful to filter for Yes in order to focus on their next steps.

Click the "toggle metric/imperial units" button to change your scorecard to view measurement units in the system most appropriate to your project’s location (icon shown below).

Make sure that when you submit for documentation review that the selections in the online scorecard are accurate and up to date.

    Scorecard rules & requirements

Project teams may submit a scorecard with up to a total of 100 points, plus 10 innovation points. The point tracker in the top right corner will automatically adjust as you make changes to your scorecard. For WELL v2 Certification, points determine a project's certification level as follows:

    • WELL Bronze Certification: 40 points; no minimum points per concept
    • WELL Silver Certification: 50 points; minimum 1 point per concept
    • WELL Gold Certification: 60 points; minimum 2 points per concept
    • WELL Platinum Certification: 80 points; minimum 3 points per concept

All projects must achieve all preconditions. These mandatory features are not associated with points. Achieving optimization parts will increase your project’s score.

Each concept has a maximum of 12 points allowed. A project may seek additional points in concepts where the project has already reached the 12-point maximum by submitting features or parts not already pursued within those concepts as innovations for Feature I01: Innovate WELL. These submissions are worth one point per part, regardless of the listed point value of that part.

Read the Overview section of the digital standard for these scoring details and more.

    Considerations when making adjustments

When evaluating which feature parts to keep or replace with unselected parts, refer back to the goals that the project team established during the stakeholder charrette, the impact of each feature on the people in your space and the feasibility of implementing each strategy.

Make progress toward your goals by selecting the features that align with the specific health outcomes identified in each feature intent and background. You may also find inspiration by exploring WELL project profiles or by reading more about how investing in health pays back.

If the project encounters challenges with feature requirements, consider pursuing an alternative strategy, such as alternative adherence paths (AAPs) or equivalencies

Remember, you may continue to adjust the scorecard as necessary throughout the certification process until your project is ready to submit documentation.

All the tools you need have been dynamically incorporated into your digital scorecard, so start building!

Earn innovation points for exceeding the 12-point maximum per concept

You may seek innovation points in concepts where your project has already reached the 12-point maximum by submitting features or parts not already pursued within those concepts as innovations for Feature I01. These submissions are worth one point per part, regardless of the listed point value of that part. Submit any concept overages (more than 12 points) within the concept as you would with any other feature.

    1. When preparing your scorecard, select "yes" for all features you will pursue within the concept, including the overages. You will see a pop-up warning about submitting more than 12 points, but you may proceed.
    2. If you have a preference, indicate which features the team would like considered for extra points toward innovations as a comment within the scorecard. Otherwise the review team will determine which features will be considered innovations.
    3. When you are ready to upload documentation for these features, upload the necessary verification documentation for the excess overage features directly within the feature part.
    4. The project reviewer will move any overages to Feature I01 during the review process. Since some features are subject to on-site verification, innovation points for I01 are awarded during the Final Performance Report. This is to allow shifting between the concept and innovations if all 12 points in the concept are not earned.
