As the scientific understanding of health continues to evolve, the ability to address the complex issue of promoting health and well-being through building design and operations evolves, too.
IWBI encourages projects to demonstrate leadership in health and well-being through the following feature types in the WELL Building Standard.
Innovation features
IWBI encourages organizations to propose new interventions that address health and well-being in a novel way. Organizations can propose new interventions not currently captured in WELL, or interventions that demonstrate exemplary performance of an existing WELL feature.
Maximize your score by achieving one of our pre-approved innovations, or submit your own Innovation feature proposal to earn an extra point (up to ten points total).

Beta features
IWBI enables projects to apply strategies based on emerging research through beta features. Pursuing a beta feature is a collaborative and iterative process that earns project teams extra points and provides valuable feedback to IWBI and the industry on best practices when implementing these novel strategies.
Lead by pursuing beta features at your organization.
