Recertification helps to ensure that a project is continuing to operate at a high standard for people’s health and well-being and therefore any changes that may have impacted WELL feature compliance since initial WELL Certification must be reported at the time of recertification.
Updates to your project boundary can include additions to the initial certification project area as well as changes to policies, building design, mechanical systems, etc. You can record project boundary updates and assess the need for further documentation through the ‘project information’ tabs of the tools linked below:
Any changes that affect less than 10% scope of a specific category do not need to be recorded. For example, in a project with 100 doors at the original WELL certification, if fewer than 10 doors have been modified or replaced, the change will not impact feature requirements.
Documentation requirements if the project boundary has changed
You are required to submit full documentation for features pursued in newly added areas to the project boundary.
Based on the amount of changes, the area that has previously achieved WELL Certification may be eligible for reduced documentation.
Performance verification requirements if project boundary has changed
You are required to undergo full performance testing for most features pursued in newly added areas to the project boundary. The exception is if the faucets in the extended project boundary are the same “configuration” as in the original space. If this is the case, you may apply reduced sampling to the extended project boundary.
Based on the amount of changes, the area that has achieved WELL Certification may be eligible for reduced performance testing.
Pricing if project boundary has changed
If your project is pursuing recertification under WELL v1 - Recertification fees are applicable to the original scope of the project listed under the recertification section here and full certification fees (v1 pricing) are applicable to the added/increased scope. Performance testing is included in this fee estimate.
If your project is pursuing recertification under WELL v2 pilot/v2 - Recertification fees are applicable to the original scope of the project listed under the recertification section here and full certification fees are applicable to the added/increased scope. Performance testing is not included in this fee estimate.
You will not be charged a registration fee for the expanded area as long as you are able to certify this as part of your recertification pursuit for the full project.
Multiple buildings in one project boundary
If your project achieved WELL Certification for multiple buildings under one project, there are two options for the buildings at the time of recertification:
- All of the buildings can undergo recertification as a single project. This can occur if there is a single project manager and you are able to upload documentation and submit for review for all buildings at the same time. Even if there are different policies, etc. for each building, so long as the documentation is submitted at the same time, the buildings can undergo recertification as a single project.
- All of the buildings can undergo recertification as separate projects. If you would like to split the buildings up and have different timelines, each building will have to undergo recertification as an individual project. We will separate the projects and adjust the size, name, and recertification fees accordingly in your WELL account.
