How to use crosswalks

  • Updated

Crosswalk tools help projects streamline their WELL journey by recognizing areas of overlap between the WELL Standard and a third-party program and, in some cases, streamlining documentation processes.

Within the Crosswalks resource hub, you will find tools called “Alignments” and tools called “Crosswalks”:

  • Crosswalk Tools: Identify areas of deeper technical equivalency between WELL strategies and credits in a third party system. These tools enable clients to leverage these deeper areas of technical overlap in order to streamline documentation for WELL and, in some cases, the opposite program.
  • Alignment Tools: Identify areas of strategic alignment between WELL strategies and credits in a third party system. These tools help clients understand areas of similarity between WELL and another program. Clients use these tools for informational purposes only and may find that these tools help guide planning decisions.

Documentation Submission Process

  • Crosswalk Tools: Projects upload “proof of award” for the program they’ve already achieved in lieu of documentation for WELL.
  • Alignment Tools: There are no streamlined documentation options for these tools. Projects must upload full WELL documentation.

For WELL precertification, a precertification or drawing review report can be used in place of the final report from the third party program

Project Boundary Requirements

  • Crosswalk Tools: The project boundaries do not need to be identical; however, the previously awarded project boundary must fully encompass the scope and boundary of the strategies being pursued in the current submission.
  • Alignment Tools: There are no rules governing how the project boundaries must overlap since projects do not utilize these tools to streamline their certification processes.
