WELL AP overview

  • Updated
  • The WELL Accredited Professional credential is the global mark of leaders who drive the movement for people first places.

The WELL AP credential denotes expertise in the WELL Building Standard. WELL APs’ advanced knowledge makes them an asset to any project. In fact, WELL projects can earn an innovation feature simply by having a WELL AP on their team.

WELL APs are masters of the WELL Building Standard and the essential components of people first places. They achieve this by studying for and passing a rigorous exam that tests proficiency in all things WELL. WELL APs stay at the cutting edge and maintain their credential by earning—and reporting—continuing education (CE) hours.

Once you’re a WELL AP, you can be added to the WELL People Directory and can promote your new credential. Use our Marketing and PR tools to make it easier for organizations invested in the health and well-being movement to find (and hire) you.

  • The WELL AP credential is for anyone who wants to harness expertise in people first places to transform their careers and contribute to their communities.

The WELL AP credential can prepare you to follow your dreams and make a bold career transition, like it did for WELL AP Stephen Marks, who went from corporate attorney to wellness consultant. Stephen followed his desire to create healthy office environments, and the WELL AP credential helped him trade in his stressful days practicing law for a more mindful lifestyle.

The credential can also help you combine your passions into one mission-driven career, which is the path WELL AP, engineer and acoustic consultant Ken Fong chose, uniting his love of design and his focus on promoting well-being, propelling his career and deepening his impact.

    Register

To start your journey, log in or create a WELL account and register for the WELL AP exam. Immediately upon registration, you will be taken to your Exam Dashboard, where you can find your exam details, which will help you schedule your exam. You can find this information at any time by logging in to your WELL account. Be sure to read the WELL AP Candidate Handbook, which centralizes much of the information you need about the exam. If necessary, request any testing accommodations you may need.

Now you’re ready to schedule your exam. We recommend scheduling right away, selecting an exam date well in advance.

Note: Once you’ve registered, you have 12 months to schedule and take your exam. If you think you might not be ready or able to sit the exam on your scheduled date, move quickly to change it (learn how to reschedule your exam). Missing the exam or failing to reschedule more than 3 days prior to your planned session will forfeit your registration fee.

    Prepare for the exam

The WELL AP exam aims to demonstrate an ability to apply WELL material in practical contexts. Sometimes this calls for recall of key knowledge; at others, your ability to refer to that knowledge in developing recommendations and implementing strategies.

From the Exam Dashboard, you can access your core study resources, including:

    Expand your expertise

Let’s put that credential to use! Contribute to WELL projects, join an Advisory or take sharing your expertise to the next level as WELL Faculty. All of these are opportunities for you to learn more and contribute your insight and expertise.

    Maintain your credential

To keep you engaged in the work and on the cutting edge of best practices, WELL APs are required to maintain their credential by accruing 30 continuing education (CE) hours every two years. Keep track of these activities so you can submit your hours at the end of each 24-month period.

  • The WELL AP credential can help you tap into new opportunities and advocate for strategies to improve health for your organization, family, friends and community.
