There are a number of ways in which consultants and WELL Enterprise Providers (EPs) can support an organization that is interested in applying WELL and fostering health and people-first places. Use the list below to explore some of these potential service areas.

Goals, Strategy and Approaches

  • Goals Setting & Needs Assessment: Helping organizations evaluate and set their people-focused priorities through stakeholder interviews and focus groups and/or survey administration and analysis. 

    • Relates to coaching Goals Module

  • Integrative Planning: Engaging interdisciplinary stakeholders to establish a health-centered mission and to identify the organization’s WELL achievement targets and scope of work. Providing ongoing education and coordination amongst stakeholders to support the WELL implementation and documentation processes.

  • WELL Strategy Setting: Following a needs assessment, positioning WELL as a strategy to meet near- and long-term organizational goals. Conveying relevant WELL programs, achievement options and associated pricing. 

    • Relates to coaching Welcome and Onboarding Calls

  • WELL Feasibility Analysis: Assessing how the organization’s current business policies and building designs align with WELL strategies. Outlining what would be required for the organization to earn targeted WELL achievements. 

    • Relates to coaching Scorecard Survey

  • Change Management: Helping organizations create a culture of health with WELL by supporting changes to organizational policies, design standards, contracts and training protocols.

  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Assessment and Action Plan: Leading a comprehensive evaluation of organizational diversity representation, creating DEI goals, and establishing DEI and non-discriminatory policies. Supporting organizations in their achievement of the WELL Equity Rating.

CSR & ESG Support

  • Health-Focused ESG and Sustainability Strategy, Reporting: Utilizing WELL to elevate a focus on health, well-being, DEI and human capital within an organization’s CSR and/or ESG strategy. Leverage WELL data to motivate improved performance and enhance corporate reporting.

  • Sustainable Finance: Demonstrate organizations' leadership and innovation in sustainable finance by incorporating WELL strategies into a variety of financing frameworks and unlock potential capital savings.

Implementation & WELL Achievements

  • Alternatives, Equivalencies & Innovation Strategies: Supporting organizations in proposing alternative strategies for WELL features when requirements cannot be met as written, as well as drafting innovations for novel health-focused strategies not already included in the WELL Standard.  

  • Certification Alignments Analysis: Leveraging crosswalk alignments between WELL and green building rating systems (for example, LEED, BREEAM, Green Star) for locations that are targeting or have  already achieved those designations, in order to maximize WELL feature accomplishments and efficiencies.  

  • WELL at scale and WELL Score Consulting: Helping clients to develop a strategy for their WELL at scale engagement and scope for up to two review cycles a year, which can include targeting WELL Score improvements and any WELL achievements, such as Certification or Ratings.  Includes services such as integrative planning, goals, scope and timeline-setting; feature assessment; implementation and documentation coordination; and third-party review process management. 

  • WELL Certification and WELL Rating Consulting: Helping clients achieve their goals of earning location-specific WELL achievement milestones, either independently or as part of a WELL at scale commitment. Includes services such as integrative planning, goals, scope and timeline-setting; feature assessment; implementation and documentation coordination; and third-party review process management. Location-specific WELL achievements include:

    • WELL Certification (and precertification), the highest pinnacle of achievement of strategies across all 10 concepts within the WELL Standard.

    • WELL Equity Rating, a set of evidence-based strategies for taking action toward diversity, equity and inclusion goals and driving improvements in company culture and resilience.

    • WELL Health-Safety Rating for Facility Operations and Management, a set of evidence-based strategies for supporting health and safety through operational policies, maintenance protocols and emergency plans.

    • WELL Performance Rating, a set of evidence-based strategies for measuring, benchmarking and improving building performance to support human health and well-being.

Documentation Preparation

  • WELL Documentation & Review Coordination: Preparing documentation to verify the implementation of WELL strategies, submitting documentation for third-party review, updating documentation in collaboration to address reviewer comments, and engaging stakeholders to support along the way.

Performance Testing

  • WELL Performance Testing Coordination: Recommending a scope for onsite performance testing for one or more locations, coordinating with the Performance Testing Organization on their execution of that scope, preparing the appropriate stakeholders for the onsite testing, and developing remediation strategies if needed. 

  • Onsite Performance Testing Services: Providing onsite testing services in compliance with WELL and as an approved Performance Testing Organization. This includes documenting feature implementation through photographs as well as performing tests for air, thermal, water, lighting and/or acoustical parameters, coordinating with accredited labs for analysis, submitting results for third-party review, responding to review comments, and informing stakeholders of progress along the way. 

  • IEQ Monitoring Strategy & Implementation: Specifying, installing and setting-up devices to monitor real-time indoor environmental quality (IEQ) parameters. Supporting an organization’s pursuit of the continuous monitoring strategies within WELL and/or the WELL Performance Rating at one or more locations. 

Impact Measurement

  • Approved Survey Provider: Maintaining and administering a psychometrically validated survey that has been pre-approved by IWBI for evaluating people’s perceptions of indoor environmental conditions and wellness policies, as well as their impact on personal health and well-being.  

  • Custom Survey Development & Administration: Helping the organization develop a custom survey to collect basic feedback from building users on their satisfaction with their environment, their engagement with health-promoting policies, and their perceived health and well-being.  

  • People-centric Metric Tracking & Analysis: Evaluating an organization’s investment in health by measuring progress and performance outcomes with people-centric metrics.

    • Relates to the 12 Competencies for Measuring Health & Well-being for Human & Social Capital  

Communications & Education 

  • External Stakeholder Communications: Providing a communications strategy and materials (spanning PR, marketing and event channels) to help organizations celebrate their WELL achievements externally. 

  • Internal Engagement Strategy: Developing a plan and materials to help organizations educate internal stakeholders (such as employees, tenants, students, patients or customers) about their WELL achievements, which may include signage, presentations, tours, newsletters and more. 

  • Education Programming: Delivering training to organizations about WELL topics that require educational programming, such as nutrition (N07), ergonomics (V11), and mindfulness (M04, M08).

WELL Achievement Maintenance

  • Annual Reporting and WELL Renewals: Supporting clients with annual reporting, testing, renewal and recertification for WELL by creating training materials for relevant stakeholders, coordinating any consultants, as well as by gathering, checking and submitting relevant documents for third-party review.

Specialty Consulting

  • Architecture and/or interior design supporting the evaluation, implementation and assessment of design-based strategies across the WELL Standard.

  • Acoustical consulting supporting the evaluation, implementation and assessment of the technical strategies within the Sound concept.

  • HR/Benefits consulting supporting the evaluation, implementation and assessment of strategies within the Mind, Community and Movement concepts, among others. 

  • Ergonomic consultation supporting the achievement of V02 and V11 for ergonomic workstation design and programming within the Movement concept.

  • Lighting design supporting the evaluation, implementation and assessment of the technical strategies within the Light concept.

  • Mechanical engineering and design supporting the evaluation, implementation and assessment of the technical strategies in the Air and Thermal Comfort concepts. 

  • Operations and facilities management supporting the evaluation, implementation and assessment of operations and maintenance strategies across the WELL Standard, such as cleaning protocols, emergency plans, HVAC maintenance, pest management, and more.
