Submitting new innovation proposals

  • Updated

Projects can submit an Innovation proposal to receive credit in WELL. To be considered for approval, projects must demonstrate that the proposed strategy is supported by scientific, medical and industry research. These inspired solutions often become paramount to the project’s identity and can contribute overall to advancing health and well-being strategies for buildings around the world.

If you would like to receive feedback on your innovation proposal before you submit for review, you may submit your proposal as an AAP.

See the steps below to learn how to submit an innovation proposal.

The process differs depending on how you are engaged with WELL, so be sure to choose the correct option. For WELL at scale, Equity Rating, or Performance Rating projects, as well as Health-Safety Rating projects created after April 18, 2023, see the "WELL at scale and WELL Ratings" instructions. Health-Safety Rating projects created before that date should follow the instructions on the WELL v2/Health-Safety Rating tab.

Earn innovation points for exceeding the 12-point maximum per concept

You may earn additional points in concepts where your project has already reached the 12-point maximum via innovations. Submit any concept overages (more than 12 points) within the concept as you would with any other feature. However, keep in mind that Innovations are capped at 10 points.

  1. When preparing your scorecard, select "yes" for all features you will pursue within the concept, including the overages. You will see a pop-up warning about submitting more than 12 points, but you may proceed.
  2. Upload the necessary verification documentation for the excess overage features within the concept.
  3. The WELL reviewer will move any overages to Feature I01 or to the total points in the Innovation concept during the review process. Since some features are subject to on-site verification, innovation points are awarded during the Final Performance Report. This is to allow shifting between the concept and innovations if all 12 points in the concept are not earned.
