The WELL for residential certification program is an evidence-based, third-party verified framework for developers, builders, operators, architects and designers to transform the way homes are designed, built and maintained to support health and well-being. From addressing air and water quality to selecting safer materials, the program includes impactful strategies that are applicable to new and existing residences, including single-family homes, units in multifamily buildings and communities of homes.
Options for pursuing WELL for residential under WELL at scale
As WELL for residential is in its pilot phase, its strategies have not been integrated into WELL v2. However, WELL for residential features can be pursued as innovations in WELL v2, allowing for additional point-earning opportunities for locations and for the WELL Score (more information on this in the next section of this article). WELL for residential features will be integrated into the next version of WELL.
Additionally, WELL at scale participants interested in WELL for residential for one or more locations can take advantage of the following opportunities:
Option 1: Utilize one out of your two WELL at scale review cycles for a WELL for residential review
You can utilize one of your two annual WELL at scale reviews to complete a WELL for residential review (for one or more locations). In order to use this option, the below have to be met:
- WELL for residential locations* may be included in your WELL at scale subscription or you may enroll additional locations. Note that you will be subject to additional fees should additional locations increase your subscription tier.
- You must focus the dedicated WELL for residential review specifically on WELL for residential and cannot submit any v2 documentation alongside WELL for residential documentation, given that the review process happens separately for these programs.
To opt-in to this option, please email your coaching contact and residential@wellcertified.com.
*In WELL for residential, 1 multifamily building is equivalent to 1 location and 20 single family homes are equivalent to 1 location.
Option 2: Opt for an additional third review cycle for an additional fee
You can request a third review cycle (in addition to the two review cycles included in a WELL at scale subscription) for $15,000, which includes up to 50 locations, to complete a WELL for residential review . In order to use this option, the below have to be met:
- WELL for residential locations* may be included in your WELL at scale subscription or you may enroll additional locations. Note that you will be subject to additional fees should additional locations increase your subscription tier.

Option 3: Enroll WELL for residential project(s) separately
You can enroll your WELL for residential project(s) separately from WELL at scale, leveraging the membership discounts (15%) you have as a WELL at scale client. This may be more cost effective for clients looking to review a single multifamily residential building that is smaller than 175k square feet.
